خبرنگاران بنگاه های خبر پراکنی آلمانی NDR و WDR وجود سلاحهای ژ3 و پ1 -که بر روی آنها حروف "BW " حک شده است- را در بازارهای سلیمانیه و اربیل تایید کرده اند. این علامت مختص اسلحه های مورد استفاده ارتش المان می باشد. آلمان فدرال این سلاحها را برای جنگ با داعش در اختیار دولت خودمختار کردستان عراق قرارداده بود. مدتها بود که تعدادی از اعضای احزاب چپ و سبز آلمان از اینکه این سلاحها بدست گروههای ناباب (داعش) بیفتد ابراز نگرانی کرده بودند. ظاهرا پیشمرگه ها بعلت عدم دریافت حقوق ماهانه خود ازدولت کردستان دست به این اقدام زده اند. نجم الدین کریم, فرماندار کرکوک در مصاحبه با همین خبرنگاران, وضعیت مالی وخیم پیشمرگه ها و عدم توانائی دولت کردستان در پرداخت حقوق کارمندان و نظامیان را تایید کرده است. بر اساس کزارش روز پنج شنبه 21 ژانویه, وزارت دفاع آلمان طی بیانیه ای, حکومت خودمختار کردستان را به رعایت مفاد قرادادی که بر اساس آن سلاحها را تحویل گرفته اند فرا خوانده و مسئولیتشان را در کاربرد این سلاحها به آنها گوشزد کرده است.

German Bundeswehr weapons reportedly resold by Kurdish peshmerga fighters
Assault rifles and pistols from German military stocks have reportedly been resold by members of the Kurdish peshmerga in northern Iraq. The fighters allegedly sold them after not being paid for months.
Reporters from German broadcasters NDR and WDR found several G3 assault rifles and a P1 pistol, all engraved with the initials 'Bw' for Bundeswehr - Germany's military - in the northern Iraqi cities of Erbil and Sulaymaniyah.
The weapons apparently came from stocks, which the German government delivered to the Kurdish autonomous government in northern Iraq. The weapons were intended to be used in the fight against the "Islamic State" ("IS").
Several members of Germany's Green and Left parties have long raised concerns in parliament that arms delivered to peshmerga fighters could fall into the wrong hands.
Economic difficulties
According to investigations by NDR and WDR, peshmerga fighters sold their weapons after not being paid for several months due to the Iraq's difficult economic situation.
Governor of Kirkuk province, Nadshmeddin Karim, confirmed the claims, telling the two German broadcasters that the Kurdish government is short of funds to regularly pay civil servants - including peshmerga fighters.
No means to track arms
According to the report on Thursday, the German Defense Ministry said the government of Iraq's Kurdistan region was responsible for the weapons, adding that they had "committed themselves to the correct verification of the delivered arms" and to use the supplies in accordance with international law.
Tracking individual weapons by German forces was neither intended nor possible.
